Should you ever need us — or need medical help

Most of your stay at Ullevi will hopefully be completely carefree — that's what a holiday is for, after all. Just in case something does come up, we want this overview to give you the peace of mind of knowing exactly where to turn. Everything here has been carefully researched and is checked regularly.

The two most important numbers in Sweden

Before we get to specific addresses, here are the two numbers worth remembering:

  • 112 — the Europe-wide emergency number, used in Sweden for police, fire brigade and ambulance. Free from any network, also reachable in English.
  • 1177 — Sweden's healthcare advice line (Vårdguiden). Available around the clock if you're unsure how urgent something is or where to turn — also in English, with interpreter support in some cases. In Sweden, this is the first port of call for anything that isn't an acute emergency.

Doctor: health centre in Vimmerby

For everyday matters, Vimmerby hälsocentral is the nearest option — a regular health centre with doctors for non-life-threatening issues.

Hospital: Västerviks sjukhus

For anything more urgent, or outside opening hours, Västerviks sjukhus is the place to go — the region's full acute-care hospital, with its own surgical department (general, vascular and gastrointestinal surgery, urology), internal medicine, radiology and maternity care. Most relevant for holiday guests is the Akutmottagning (emergency department), open around the clock.

  • Distance from Ullevi: approx. 40 km / 40-minute drive

Dentist: reachable on weekends too

Regular dental practices are available in both towns, plus a dedicated weekend emergency service:

  • Weekend dental emergency service (covering the whole region, including Vimmerby and Västervik) — call 010-358 65 37 on Saturdays and Sundays between 9–11am, treatment then takes place at the specialist dental clinic at Västerviks sjukhus

Practical tip for guests from abroad

As an EU citizen, it's worth bringing your European Health Insurance Card (on the back of your statutory health insurance card) — this means treatment within the Swedish healthcare system is billed on the same terms as for locals. If you're ever unsure, it's always better to call 1177 and ask than to try to judge for yourself how urgent something is.
