By car: two tried-and-tested routes
From Germany, two main routes lead to Totebo: over the Öresund Bridge via Denmark, or by ferry directly across the Baltic Sea, for example between Rostock/Sassnitz and the Swedish ports. Which route makes more sense depends on your starting point in Germany and your personal preference for road driving versus a ferry crossing — both are established, well-signposted connections.
How long does the journey really take?
The actual driving time varies considerably depending on where you set off from in Germany and which route you choose — for most starting points, expect a journey of several hours up to nearly two days, including ferry time or breaks. Splitting the trip over two days makes for a noticeably more relaxed arrival than driving it all in one go.
Alternative: travelling by air
For guests without their own car or with limited time, Norrköping Airport is about 90 kilometres from Ullevi — the final stretch can then be covered with a rental car. This option particularly suits shorter stays, where a long drive would otherwise eat up a disproportionate amount of holiday time.
On site: a car is recommended
Totebo itself is a quiet, scattered settlement without a centre of its own — for shopping, trips to Vimmerby or Västervik, and getting to Lake Hällsjön, a car on site is practically essential. Anyone arriving without their own vehicle should plan firmly for a rental car.
